Canadian soldier, Capt. Megan Couto, becomes 1st woman to command Queen’s Guard

Canadian Armed Forces soldier Megan Couto, 24, became the first woman to lead the Changing of the Guard ceremony at London’s Buckingham Palace on Monday.

LONDON — A Canadian soldier became the first woman to take command of troops guarding Queen Elizabeth‘s Buckingham Palace residence in London on Monday.

Captain Megan Couto said it was a great honour to lead her Canadian unit in the Changing of the Guard ceremony at the palace, an event which regularly attracts thousands of tourists.
