First-half finale underscores Blue Jays’ poor predicament

TORONTO — If you forgot the Houston Astros have the most prolific offence in baseball, they did a pretty good job reminding you Sunday afternoon. It was a bloodbath at Rogers Centre as Houston teed off on J.A. Happ and Toronto’s bullpen, starching the Blue Jays 19-1.

It was the fourth largest margin of defeat in the 40-year history of the ball club. And although the Blue Jays come away from this four-game set vs the American League’s best team with a series split, they still have not won a series at home since the end of May, dropping or splitting the half-dozen played since.
