On the weekend of July 21-22, Kindersley was treated to a thrilling weekend of power and speed at the East 40 Motorplex, one of the few places in Saskatchewan to hold a “double event”— of both drag races and truck & tractor pulls.

“We couldn’t have scripted the weekend any better,” said Shayne Neigum, event coordinator. “When you hold an event like this, you take a gamble with mother nature but this weekend she blessed us with incredible weather.”

Local drivers competed against contestants from as far away as British Columbia and Arizona in blown alcohol sand drags. The truck & tractor pulls wowed the bleachers with their tough grit and brute force.

This was the first time East 40 Motorplex has included the truck & tractor pulls during their weekend and so far the feedback has been nothing but positive. Neigum noted that the blown-alcohol drag performances with the truck & tractor pulls kept the audience’s interest running at an all-time high.

“From seeing the full bleachers both days and hearing folks afterward, it seems like everyone enjoyed the addition. We definitely plan to hold a double event again.”

Neigum said that the committee was pleased to see the number of families attending the event, keeping the bouncy castles, sand pits, and monster truck rides busy over the weekend. In the evenings, the 454 and Dusty Mules bands entertained attendees with late-night cabarets.

“All of the positive feedback certainly makes up for the way I’m feeling right now,” chuckled Neigum, noting that the busy weekend taxed the resources of many individuals.  “Brian Thiessen; Ron Smith; Mitch Parton and Rolly; Wes Hammond; Brian Hammel; Brittany Newmeyer; Darla Dorsett, and everyone else who pitched in whenever it was needed—without you guys, it would have been useless to try and pull off the event.”

While the weekend was challenging, Neigum says they are already thinking and planning for next year. “When you see those happy faces and hear the roar of the mighty engines, it just makes it all worth it.”
