The roar of motors, the hearty cheering of crowds; this upcoming weekend has been long awaited by racers and families alike.

The Kindersley Drag Races and Truck & Tractor Pulls is a family friendly event, full of fun, races, and intense pull matches. In fact, it is one of the only places in Saskatchewan to hold a “double event” — both Drag Races and Truck & Tractor pulls.

“According to all the entries so far, we are expecting a good turnout,” says Shayne Neigum, event coordinator. “We have had entries from dirt racers, tractors, and blown-alcohol drivers; just to name some of them.”

To keep families entertained, the events on Saturday include bouncy castles and sand pits filled with loonies which children can hunt for and use to purchase freezes or thirst quenchers. “We have a little of something for everyone; it is our goal to appeal to the whole community.” Neigum says the gate will open for racers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, but the first engine will crank around 6:00 p.m.

The events will continue on Saturday around 3:00 p.m., extending into the evening.

Live music from the 454 and Dusty Mules bands will provide entertainment during the cabarets after the races and pulls.

The event draws not only members from the community but also from places as far away as British Columbia and Arizona. “Many guys take great pride in their machines, and will go the distances for events like this.”

Neigum noted that a busy, full weekend like this could not have been pulled off without the dedicated work of many volunteers. “I would like to give out my heartfelt thanks to everyone who donated their time, money, equipment, and energy to make this even possible. Once the gate opens, the music cranks up and the benches fill with smiling happy people, all the hard work and planning will be worth it.”
