The town of Kindersley garnered some provincial recognition yesterday as two Kindersley bowling teams took Gold and Bronze in the Provincial Championships.  Now the Gold winners are looking ahead to the Nationals.

“It’s almost numbing,” says team member Murray Gilles, “I’ve had silver before, but not gold; so this is new and exciting for me, for all of us really.”

The winning team, known as Kindersley Team 2 during the Championship, swept ahead of their competitors in all five games, ultimately smashing over 759 pins.

“Yesterday’s games were really good,” Gilles noted. “Every team member went above their average score.”

The provincial games have been ramping up since March, but it was on April 23 that teams from all over Saskatchewan pushed themselves to the limit in three categories, the Bowl Canada Cup, the Club 55 Cup, and the Tenpin Bowling World Cup. Teams Kindersley 1 and 2 both participated in the Bowl Canada Cup.

Now with the Provincials behind them, Team Kindersley 2 is readying for the Nationals held in Winnipeg, Manitoba on July 7, 2017.  “I’m excited to go—obviously,” Gilles laughed. “It’s one thing to compete with other people from your town, or even from your province, so to match against bowlers all across the country will really be something.”
