Last night’s game with the Eatonia Huskies ended with the Red Lions celebrating on the ice after a sound 5-2 game.
“Even though we played with a short bench, the team pulled together and played a really good game.” said Coach Curtis Graham.
Riddled with some intense playing, the end of the first period saw each team with an even scoreboard of 1-1. Into the second period, the Huskies broke the tie pulling the score 2-1 in their favor. Undaunted, the Red Lions plunged forward, planting two goals in quick succession. Even at that point, Coach Graham didn’t take the game for granted.
“Anything can happen in a hockey game,” he noted. “The Huskies kept us on our toes the whole time.”
But the Huskies didn’t close the gap and the Red Lions had just enough time to bring the score to a neat 5-2 by the end of the game.
“It was a good feeling to see the boards in our favour,” said Coach Graham. The Red Lions are looking to make Sunday’s away game with the Hague Royals their third win in a row. Coach Graham says he expects the game to be another tight race, but he is looking forward to his team pulling together for another good game in the provincials.
