Regina Cougar’s Women’s hockey players take a swing at Canada Summer Games

Two University of Regina women’s hockey players will take to the softball diamond at the Canada Summer Games, from Aug. 7-13 in Winnipeg.

Third-year defenceman Tamara McVannel (left) is an outfielder for Team Manitoba and incoming rookie Jordan Kulbida (right) will pitch and play shortstop for Team Saskatchewan.

McVannel, a member of the Manitoba team that competed at the 2011 Western Canada Summer Games, was named to this year’s provincial team back in May after trying out in August of 2016.

Growing up in the small town of MacGregor, Man., McVannel played hockey in the winters starting at age 5 and softball in the summers beginning when she was 8.
