After years of patient waiting and planning, shovels finally hit the dirt for a new aquatic centre in Kindersley.

Today’s sod turning ceremony, held on location, marked a great leap forward in the project that has held Kindersley’s attention for so long.

In April, the Town revealed chosen design for the new centre.  The project will include a Junior Olympic-sized lane pool, a 20-person hot tub, a 150 foot waterslide, and a 2,500 square foot leisure pool.  Additions of rock climbing walls, party rooms, and an outdoor patio will make this facility a great asset to the young families of the community.

Jeff Meyer, owner of Pro-Built Structures, and Brett Dyregrov, construction manager for Western Recreation; are the chosen contractors for the pool project.  “We are grateful for how our contractors were able to work with our terms and conditions,” stated Mayor Rod Perkins.

Mayor Perkins, joined by council members, contactors, major sponsors, and members of the community,  placed his shovel in the dirt, signifying the official start of construction.  “I have dirt before me and equipment behind me,” stated Mayor Perkins, he added that the town is more than ready for some action.

Mayor Perkins acknowledged the hard work and determination of the counsel, the contractors, and of the members of the community who all have worked, and will continue working on the project.  Major sponsors, such as the Synergy Credit Union, Kindersley District Co-op, G-macs and the Kindersley Big Dippers were also thanked for their tireless fundraising for the project.

Over 1.1 million has been set aside for the building, and over 100,000 has been raised by local fundraisers, headed by the Kindersley Big Dippers.  The total project will require 6.6 Million, and the Town is looking forward to the community pitching in.

“We know that we can rely on our great community to continue doing what it does best—support the need wherever and whenever needed.”
