Kindersley Klippers, CMHA Rosetown Partner for Talk Today Game in Support of Mental Health Awareness

The Kindersley Klippers have partnered with Canadian Mental Health Association, Rosetown to host a Talk Today game in support of mental health awareness on Friday, Feb. 9 at 7:30 p.m. when the Klippers take on the Nipawin Hawks at West Central Events Centre.

Talk Today is one of the most comprehensive mental health programs for amateur sports in Canada. It strives to promote the mental health of young athletes while spreading awareness about the benefits of positive mental health throughout communities across the country.

The game day experience will have several features to promote the importance of mental health, including:

• A 50/50 draw with a guaranteed take-home prize of $1,000, generously sponsored by Impact Energy Services • A CMHA-run kiosk where fans can learn more about mental health and the organization’s community-based services

• A ceremonial puck drop and photo opportunity with CMHA Rosetown

• Public service announcements about mental health and CMHA Rosetown

This mental health awareness game is part of the Klippers’ partnership with CMHA Rosetown and its Talk Today program. Talk Today, an initiative of CMHA Rosetown in partnership with CMHAs nationwide, collaborates with amateur sports organizations across Canada to bring mental health awareness and suicide-prevention training to young athletes. This season, Talk Today is celebrating a major milestone – its 10th season of supporting junior hockey.

The key piece of the Talk Today program has been to educate players about mental health and suicide prevention, in addition to linking each team to a CMHA Mental Health Coach who provides support and mental health resources to individuals in need. Since its launch in 2014, Talk Today has delivered suicide prevention training and provided resources to approximately 7,600 athletes as well as nearly 1,000 coaches, billets, parents and team staff in junior hockey, and high school, college and university athletics. “We’re proud to support the Kindersley Klippers through Talk Today and are excited to welcome Klippers fans to our mental health awareness game on Feb. 9,” said Carmen Ledding, program director of CMHA Rosetown. “The Klippers are great community partners and we thank them for letting us use their platform to share information about local community-based mental health services at this game.”

“The Kindersley Klippers have learned a lot about mental health and suicide through the Talk Today program and appreciate all the support we receive from CMHA Rosetown,” said Clayton Jardine, head coach and general manager of the Klippers.”We’re pleased to welcome them to our game Feb. 9 and hope our fans learn more about how to support their own mental health. See you there.

Tickets for the game can be purchased at the door for $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and $10 for students. Kids 12 and under get in free. For more information on the Talk Today program, visit www.talktoday.ca.
