Sun West Career Development Team Explore Virtual Reality

Virtual reality technology has been growing in popularity and its potential uses go far beyond just gaming and entertainment. The Sun West Career Development Lead Teacher Team recently had the opportunity to explore some of its uses in helping students with career development and planning for their future.

At the recent Sun West Career Development teacher team meeting in December, representatives from the Saskatoon Industry Education Council introduced the teachers to virtual reality equipment and programming that allowed them to explore such occupations as automotive service technician, residential electrician, plumber and mining engineer. These are only a few of the potential careers that students can experience virtually.

Following the interactive demonstration of the virtual reality equipment, the Career Development Team were able to reflect on the experience and discuss ways that the virtual reality experience could benefit students and how it could be offered within Sun West.

The Career Development team anticipates that it will be able to bring virtual reality to Sun West schools in the not to distant future.
