Cereal Rodeo is Happening August 28th, 29th!

Saddle up partners because the 6th annual Cereal Rodeo is just a few short weeks away!

“We had to skip the 2020 rodeo because of Covid, so we’re excited for this year’s,” said Brenda Hamre-Barr, the Cereal & District Athletic Association’s Treasurer. “This is our first full rodeo weekend in decades! Every year we have gotten bigger and better. In 2019 we had over 126 kids entered… it took nine pages to include everyone in our program! Our newest event for 2021 is the Breakaway Roping!”

On August 28th, gates will open at 3:00 p.m. for the Bronc Bash for Cash, with tickets costing $10 adult while kids are free. The concession and beer gardens open from 3:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., and 50/50 tickets are available for $1 each with the draw at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, and another draw at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The Bronc Bash for Cash begins at 6 p.m. Up to 31 riders and 40 horses will compete against one another, with $5,000 in prize money up for grabs. Kids, get ready because August 29th is your chance to show off your skills! From mutton busting, wild pony racing to steer riding there is something for everyone. But be sure to register before August 21st because there is a cap on the mutton busting, wild ponies, and possibly steer riding.

A few details for the kid’s rodeo are:

  • Yes, lead line is welcome
  • Western attire is a must
  • No safety gear is provided. You must bring your own helmet, vest, etc.
  • Age is as of January 1st
  • Wild pony ages are 8-13

For anyone looking to sponsor a rodeo event, prices are:

  • Barrel Racing $150
  • Thread the Needle$150
  • Pole Bending $150
  • Goat Tying $150
  • Goat Undecorating $150
  • Mutton Busting $150
  • Wild Pony Racing $200
  • Steer Riding $200
  • Break Away Roping $200
  • Kids token (1 pop & hot dog) $200
  • “Cowboy Kindness” Award $150

Donations can also be made towards the overall event, which will help with things like running costs.

All rodeo event donated money will go directly towards prizes for the kids, ensuring they have safe equipment and a safe place to compete.

If you choose to sponsor, you will receive multiple announcements of acknowledgement, signage posted in thanks, and a shout-out on the Cereal & District Athletic Association Facebook page.
