A storm system entering an unusual weather pattern is set to bring Canada an unprecedented weather phenomenon as the week begins. The storm sweeping through Eastern Canada, will deliver more than just powerful winds and heavy rainfall to the northern border.
Weather warnings are currently in effect across the Maritimes region, as strong winds and heavy rains are anticipated to traverse the area on Monday.
According to a wind warning issued by Environment Canada, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia can expect “very strong wind gusts that may cause damage” from Monday morning through Tuesday.
In New Brunswick, winds are predicted to reach speeds of up to 80 kilometers per hour, with even higher gusts in the Fundy region. Meanwhile, Nova Scotia is forecasted to experience more aggressive winds, reaching speeds of 120 kilometers per hour or higher from Margaree Harbour to Bay St. Lawrence.
The weather statement from Environment Canada warns that “high winds may displace loose objects or lead to tree branches breaking, potentially causing utility outages.” It also advises securing outdoor seasonal decorations.
In addition to wind warnings, special weather statements have been issued, indicating that heavy rainfall will persist in both provinces until Tuesday morning, although likely peaking on Monday evening.
In Nova Scotia, rainfall is expected to range between 30 to 50 millimeters, with areas experiencing the heaviest rain potentially receiving up to 100 millimeters.
New Brunswick’s Fundy and southwestern regions can anticipate up to 80 millimeters of rain, while the rest of the province may see 25 to 50 millimeters.
Environment Canada has issued a storm surge warning for the Atlantic Coast of Nova Scotia, specifically targeting south-facing shorelines near Halifax and the Eastern shore.
