Caleb Village Hosts Kindersley Fire For Training Night

Hello, Cody Phinney back for another update from the Kindersley Fire Brigade. Last week the staff and residents at Caleb Village hosted us and allowed us to use their facility for our training night. Our members set up our Ladder truck and practiced and familiarized themselves with the process to rescue someone from a balcony. Other members brought in our high-rise kits and ran standpipe connection and hose-lay drills. It can be quite challenging to bring hose lines in from a truck outside so we have special kits to allow us to use dedicated fire department standpipes to deliver water in large buildings. Thank you to Nancy, the resident, and all the other staff at Caleb for the valuable training opportunity.

The holiday season has finally arrived, and I’ve been noticing some good looking decorations around town. While they may look good, decorations if damaged or used improperly can be quite the hazard. All electric Christmas lights and decorations should have their cords inspected prior to setting them up. You should always test them out in a safe area before hanging them on your house or deck. Christmas candles are always popular as well, but also come with their own dangers. Keep children and pets away from lit candles. You should also keep a safe buffer zone around lit candles to keep other objects away. Candles in glass containers that burn down all the way can super-heat and break open, which can ignite tables and other surfaces quickly as well. Never leave a lit candle unattended.
