Case containing Wayne Gretzky Rookie Cards Sells for $3.7M

A collection of vintage hockey cards featuring the legendary player known as the Great One sold for over $3.7 million after being discovered in a house in Regina.

Heritage Auctions announced that the successful buyer purchased a case containing 16 unopened boxes of the O-Pee-Chee 1979 hockey card series, totaling over 10,000 cards.

The auction house mentioned that this case might contain at least 25 sought-after rookie cards of Wayne Gretzky.

The case had been stored in a cluttered storage room by a Regina man.

The auction house noted that the collector, who has had the case for a long time, prefers to stay unnamed.

A representative of the company mentioned that they do not anticipate the purchaser will open the boxes, as the sealed case is considered more rare than the individual rookie cards.
