Obituaries: Shirley Emmeline Rea Ridalls
February 1, 1931 ~ September 26, 2019 (age 88)
Shirley Emmeline Rea Ridalls was born February 1st, 1931 in Dundurn, Saskatchewan. She was predeceased by her parents, Florence and Nicholas Ridalls, and brother Bob and sister in law Edith.
Shirley’s father and his 2 brothers came to Canada from England in 1910 and homesteaded in the Bickleigh area. Shirley spent her younger years on the family farm, a place that was very special to her. She called it her safe place.
Shirley attended the School of Nursing at Calgary Memorial Hospital, graduating with her RN in 1954. Shortly after this she joined the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corp. Shirley moved to Chilliwack, BC. in 1960, and began working at Chilliwack General, eventually moving to Maple Ridge Hospital, Vancouver General, and Burnaby Hospital. While at Maple Ridge Hospital she bought her first property, a small acreage, of which she was very proud. She enjoyed having a place to garden and raise animals.
Shirley was a member of the Nursing Sisters Association. She was awarded the Queens Diamond Jubilee Medal for her service in nursing and to the army.
Shirley was widely traveled. She had a big heart and loved her family and friends.
Today we welcome Shirley home, We love you, we miss you……Rest in peace
