SJHL Power Rankings

The SJHL Power Rankings are decided each and every week by a group of SJHL broadcasters and will be released each Tuesday.

1. Flin Flon Bombers 11-0-1-0 (Last Week 1st): The beat goes on for the Flin Flon Bombers as they extended their winning streak to 10 over the weekend as they swept their pair of home games with the Kindersley Klippers. They continue to get contributions from up and down their line-up and also continue to put the puck in the back of the net at will. Flin Flon will hit the road to Nipawin Tuesday for an all Sherwood division match-up and will then be home to the Melville Millionaires for a pair this weekend.

2. Humboldt Broncos 8-0-1-1 (Last Week 2nd): For the 2nd weekend in a row, the Humboldt Broncos earned three out of a possible four points and through 10 games they have yet to lose in regulation. What’s stood out through 10 games with the Broncos is how well they have been defensively, allowing just 17 goals in 10 games. Humboldt will play 3 games in 4 nights this week beginning Wednesday at home to Estevan and then have a home and home with Kindersley this weekend.

3. Melfort Mustangs 9-2-0-0 (Last Week 3rd): It was another strong week for the Melfort Mustangs as they earned four out of a possible six points. However, they did suffer their first loss in regulation at the Northern Lights Palace Saturday night in a close 4-3 game to the Melville Millionaires. The good news for Melfort is they will get a chance to get some revenge as they head to Melville Tuesday for a re-match with the Mills. Then on the weekend, the Mustangs will meet the Yorkton Terriers for a pair of games.

4. Melville Millionaires 6-2-0-0 (Last Week 4th): In their lone game of the week the Melville Millionaires earned a 4-3 on the road in Melfort against the Mustangs. Melville has played the least amount of games among all SJHL teams, but that is about to change. This week will be a big test for the Mills, as they host Melfort Tuesday and then play three games in three nights this weekend on the road with two contests in Flin Flon and then wrap up the trip in La Ronge.

5. Battlefords North Stars 6-5-0-1 (Last Week 6th): Following a tough loss on the road mid-week against the Melfort Mustangs, the Battlefords North Stars elevated their game against another top team this weekend as they earned three out of four points against the Humboldt Broncos. Justen Maric continues to be lights out in between the pipes for the Stars and earned his 2nd Sasktel Goalie of the Week award this week. The Stars will hit the road this weekend for three in three as they head to southeast Saskatchewan for a pair of games with Weyburn and one with Estevan.

6. Weyburn Red Wings 6-3-0-3 (Last Week 8th): After losing their 5th in a row Wednesday to the Notre Dame Hounds, the Weyburn Red Wings were in need of a big bounce back weekend, and they got it. They got back in the win column at home against Nipawin and followed it up with a road win in Yorkton. Max Monette led the charge with 5 goals and 2 assists and as a result, was named SGEU MVP of the Week. Weyburn will be home to Battlefords twice this week Thursday and Saturday.

7. Nipawin Hawks 6-5-0-1 (Last Week 5th): It was a busy week for the Nipawin Hawks as they took to the ice four times. They started the week off with a nice win at home to La Ronge, but then only managed two out of a possible six points on their three game in three night road trip in southern Saskatchewan. It will be a quick turnaround for the Hawks as they host Flin Flon Tuesday but then will have some time off before returning to the ice Sunday afternoon at home against the Notre Dame Hounds.

8. Kindersley Klippers 3-6-1-1 (Last Week 6th): While the first contest of the Klippers 3 in 3 this past weekend was a blowout, the last two were tight, highly contested games that could have gone either way. However, the trip resulted in no points in the standings for the Klippers and it won’t get any easier. They play a home and home with the Humboldt Broncos this weekend.

9. Notre Dame Hounds 3-9-0-0 (Last Week 12th): The Notre Dame Hounds went from winless to a three game winning streak in one week. Notre Dame knocked off Weyburn, Estevan, and Nipawin this past week and all of a sudden are just two points out of being in a playoff position. This weekend won’t get any easier for the Hounds who hit the road for three games in three night with a big pair against La Ronge Friday and Saturday, followed by an afternoon contest in Nipawin Sunday.

10. Estevan Bruins 3-5-0-2 (Last Week 10th): Similar to last season, the Estevan Bruins are off to a slow start this season. Just one out of a possible four points this past weekend and now the defending Viterra division champs are on a three game losing streak. This week will be a good test for the Bruins as they look to get back in the win column. They visit the Humboldt Broncos Wednesday and then welcome the defending SJHL champs to Affinity Place on Friday.

11. La Ronge Ice Wolves 3-8-1-1 (Last Week 11th): After dropping their first game of the week in Nipawin last Tuesday, this past weekend was a step in the right direction for the La Ronge Ice Wolves as they earned 3 out of a possible 4 points at home against Melfort and Kindersley. The Ice Wolves are in the midst of a lengthy homestand and can really soar up the standings with a good showing on it. They will play three games in three nights this weekend, all at home. They host Notre Dame Friday and Saturday, then wrap up the weekend against Melville Sunday.

12. Yorkton Terriers 3-6-1-0 (Last Week 9th): The struggles for the Yorkton Terriers at home continued this weekend as they fell 7-2 to the Humboldt Broncos last Tuesday at home and then dropped a heartbreaker to Weyburn 5-4 Saturday. Yorkton has now dropped five in a row and are searching for answers. Unfortunately, it won’t get any easier for the Terriers as they play a pair with the Melfort Mustangs this weekend, including a neutral site game Saturday in Kamsack.
