Community Gives “Amazing Response” to Museum Online Auction

By Mallorie Rast

The Kindersley & District Museum is ready to reopen with style in May 2021 as monies from the Museum’s online silent auction continues to sponsor building and grounds upkeep over the otherwise silent summer months.

“Thanks to the community participation and the hard work of our summer student, the museum is ready for season reopening next May,” said Anna Polsfut, Communications Coordinator for the Town of Kindersley.

With the restrictions on community gatherings due to COVID-19, the Museum was not only unable to open its doors to the public this summer, it also was not able to host its annual fundraising raffle.

However, thanks to the generous support from businesses in the community, and the hard work from the Town and other volunteers, an online silent auction has been held on Facebook over the summer in order to replace the annual raffle sale.

The online event kicked off on Canada Day, and in just over a month, the auction has generated an estimated $4600, nearly the same amount raised by the annual paper raffle fundraiser. “The community response has been absolutely amazing,” said Polsfut. “Even in these hard times, the community has once again pulled through and supported us.”

The closing day for the auction is August 21st, and the final postings will feature large ticket items donated by community individuals and businesses. To participate in the final leg of the auction, buyers can visit the Kindersley & District Plains Museum Facebook Page and bid on the items posted in an album.

All funds generated go towards the general upkeep of the building and grounds, as well as funding the wages of the summer student. This summer, the museum has had new painting on floors, outdoor buildings, and signage. In addition to these facelifts, the building and grounds have been cleaned from top to bottom so the whole area is ship-shape for its next season opening.

Polsfut says that she is looking forward to next season opening already, “it just hasn’t been the same this year without our usual visitors.” After the online auction, the next event on the museum’s schedule is their annual Walk of Lights in December. More information on that event will be released closer to the date.
