Two New Books Will Mark the 40th Anniversary of Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope

Together, Penguin Random House Canada and the Fox Family are marking the 40th anniversary of the Marathon of Hope, with the publication of two new books this summer.

On September 1st, Viking Canada will publish Forever Terry: A Legacy in Letters, comprising 40 letters from 40 contributors who give voice to everything that Terry Fox embodied. Edited by Terry’s younger brother Darrell Fox on behalf of the Fox Family, contributors range from Margaret Atwood and Jann Arden to those who accompanied Terry on his run.Proceeds from Forever Terry will go to The Terry Fox Foundation, which, so far, has raised over $800 million for cancer research.

On August 4th, Tundra Books will publish Terry Fox and Me, a children’s picture book written by Mary Beth Leatherdale and illustrated by Milan Pavlović. Written from the perspective of Terry’s best friend, Doug Alward, the book tells the true story of how two friends supported, challenged, and helped each other become better athletes and people. Containing photos and notes from Doug Alward and Terry’s brother Darrell, the book is filled with messages of friendship hope and determination.

Penguin Random House Canada will donate to The Terry Fox Foundation a portion of the proceeds from Terry Fox and Me as well as 2,500 copies for distribution to schools across the country. Tundra Books will create a teacher’s guide and materials to support classroom readings and in-school Terry Fox activities.
