Catching up With West Central Abilities
By Mallorie Rast
After a full summer of fun activities, West Central Abilities looks to swing into the autumn season with their annual online auction.
This event will be the second annual auction for WCA and all proceeds will be towards a new program building in the heart of Kindersley.
West Central Abilities Inc. has secured property in the 100 block of 1st Avenue West as the location for their new Program Building. “We have been fundraising for this project for a number of years and have received a great deal of support from our community so far!” says Regan Overand, Program Administrator for WCA.
Items that will be auctioned have either been created by the individuals receiving services from WCA, or donated from organizations and community members. Those still wishing to donate towards the auction have until September 11th to either drop off or arrange a pick up for their items. In order to make these arrangements, be sure to contact the WCA through Facebook, or through email at westcentralind@sasktel.net or phone at (306) 463-2727.
“We are so grateful for all of the support that we receive from our community and look forward to continuing to partner with community members and organizations to offer high quality, person-centred programs in our new safer and more easily accessible location,” said Overand.
This fall event comes on the heels of a fun and busy summer for WCA, as staff and members got creative in the face of COVID-19. Clients worked their muscle and innovations with challenges such as “Imagination Box Challenge” where each house received a box of miscellaneous items and was challenged to create a theme, an object, or whatever came to their imagination, to the “Chopped Mystery Basket” where each home received the same ingredients to create a meal for the judging panel.
Whimsical and lively holidays like Space Day, Play Dough Day, and Spa Day with edible face masks were observed. Other ingenious activities included “milking” a cardboard cow with a latex-glove filled with white liquid, and taking Wild West themed photos from a created photo booth. Follow all of the fun activities and adventures on their Facebook page or at www.westcentralabilities.ca.
West Central Abilities has been providing services in the west central area for 48 years and looks forward to continued quality services in the years to come.
