Jeremy Patzer: Sign the Petition, Allowing the RCMP to Enforce Clare’s Law
The Saskatchewan Government unanimously passed the Interpersonal Violence Disclosure Protocol Act (Clare’s Law) which would protect citizens from domestic abuse by allowing them to be informed of an intimate partner’s past violent or abusive behaviour.
However, a clause under the Federal Privacy Act prevents the RCMP from being able to enforce this law. As such, I sponsored a petition which calls on the Minister of Justice to make the necessary changes to the Privacy Act, that would allow the RCMP to enforce Clare’s Law.
