More People Working in Province Than Ever Before

The province of Saskatchewan has experienced a notable increase in employment, surpassing previous records. Presently, there are 604,700 individuals employed in the province, indicating a higher number of people working than ever before. Furthermore, both Regina and Saskatoon are witnessing unprecedented levels of employment, with 148,300 and 198,800 individuals working, respectively.

According to recently released labor force data from Statistics Canada for June, Saskatchewan has demonstrated significant growth in its labor force. In comparison to June 2022, the province has added 3,300 new jobs, and when compared to May 2023, it has added 1,800 new jobs.

Jeremy Harrison, the Minister of Immigration and Career Training, highlighted Saskatchewan’s consistent job growth over the past two years. He emphasized the province’s position as a region of growth and opportunity, having created nearly 8,000 new jobs since the beginning of 2023. The government recognizes the exceptional labor participation rates and continuous private capital investments as key drivers behind Saskatchewan’s sustained growth.

Saskatchewan’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stands at 4.7 percent, ranking third among provinces and below the national average of 5.4 percent. This achievement indicates a healthy employment scenario within the province.

Saskatchewan has also experienced growth across multiple significant indicators. The provincial population increased by 6,821 individuals in the first quarter of 2023, reaching a total of 1,221,439. This population growth represents the largest increase in over a century. Additionally, Saskatchewan led Canada in GDP growth last year, recording an impressive rate of 5.7 percent. The Conference Board of Canada projects a strong provincial GDP growth of 2.5 percent in 2023 and 1.9 percent in 2024 for Saskatchewan, further solidifying its leading position in the country. The province has also witnessed a remarkable increase in exports, with a global total of $52 billion and $29.3 billion specifically to the United States. Furthermore, April saw a year-over-year wholesale trade increase of 45 percent, indicating robust provincial and economic growth.

With its record-breaking employment levels, low unemployment rate, population growth, and impressive GDP and trade figures, Saskatchewan continues to demonstrate a vibrant and thriving economy. These indicators are reflective of the province’s position as a region of opportunity and progress, driving its ongoing growth and success.
