Kindersley Firefighter Nathan Ward Shares His Experience on the Department

Hi, I’m Nathan Ward and I’m known as “Firefighter 80” on the Kindersley Fire Department, which I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of now for four years.

I was born and raised on the family farm by Smiley, Sk. I have been married for 10 years and we have three beautiful kids. My kids absolutely love seeing the fire trucks and taking tours of the hall and trucks. My oldest always tells me he wants to be a firefighter when he grows up and my daughter always wants to go to the fire hall every chance she gets

Becoming a firefighter is something that’s always interested me, and I often thought about joining. Over the years, I began noticing how busy the department was getting with calls, which spurred me on to join since I want to do what I can to help out. I love supporting the community and giving them the commitment they deserve.

I’ve also loved every minute of being part of the department. I’d have to say one of my most memorable moments was the first time I got to drive one of the trucks on a call.

There are many challenges facing volunteer Fire Departments, but I’d have to say right now, ours is recruiting. We need more volunteers and full commitment!
