Bitter Cold Continues for Kindersley and Area

Very Cold Wind Chills Expected for Several Days

Western Saskatchewan is getting a taste of the bitter grip of winter cold.

A ridge of high pressure is ushering in very cold air from Alaska into the western Prairies. The cold air will be pushing eastward this week; by tonight, Environment Canada expects most of Saskatchewan to be in the extreme cold.

With wind chill values near -40C in Kindersley this morning there is risk of frostbite to exposed skin.

Remember, extreme cold puts everyone at risk. Please remember to dress warmly, if you dress in layers you can always remove a layer if you get too warm. The outer layer should be wind resistant. Remember to keep dry and cover up your skin to prevent frostbite. Take frequent warm-up breaks if working outside.

Be sure to watch out for cold-related symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.

If it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside.
