Career Day A Great Success

The calenders were marked, the vendors were set up and the high school gym was ready for an influx of visitors as the Kindersley Chamber of Commerce hosted their 2nd annual Career Day. And boy was it busy! The estimated 450 to 500 people who came through were treated to 30 businesses who were looking for employees. There were 30 different vendors showing off their company and the benefits of working for them. SaskPower had a display where you could put on lineman gear and attempt to pick a wire with a long pole. Vold’s Collision had a virtual reality “machine” where you could put on the goggles and learn how to paint a vehicle!

The Sask Health Authority had 4 presentations on different careers in the health industry. HR, LPN, RN and MLT occupations were discussed and presented to a group of students in 1 of the classrooms.

Also, Community Futures did 2 presentations on entrepreneurship and about starting your own business.

Every booth was busy at some point and according to the vendors, many students asked intelligent questions, showing more than an interest.

SaskJobs, Sask Polytec, Great Plains College and the Apprenticeship Board all reported a brisk “business” with many interested students. Fountain Tire and Dennis Welding also said they were happy with the turnout and vowed to return the next time. All in all it was an extremely successful day.  Many connections and relationships were made. The Chamber would like to thank the KCS high school for allowing us to host this event in their gym. We really did appreciate it!
