Woman Charged With Defrauding 11 Victims After RCMP GIS Investigation

In early December, 2020, Wakaw RCMP received a report of theft from an individual’s personal bank account.

Once the investigation started, due to the scope and complexities involved, the Saskatoon RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS) took carriage.

As a result of investigation, on April 13, 2022, Brenda Venne (1958-06-15) of Wakaw, Saskatchewan was arrested and is charged with:

– 1 count, fraud over $5,000.00

– 1 count, theft over $5,000.00

Information #90449160

Venne will appear in Wakaw Provincial Court on June 14, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.

“This 16-month long fraud and theft investigation began due to the vigilance of one keen individual. It takes great strength for a victim to come forward to police and make a report and I commend them for this,” shares Sgt. Greg Smith, acting officer in charge of the Saskatchewan RCMP General Investigation Section. “Eleven victims, the majority being seniors, were ultimately identified during the course of this investigation. Sadly, some of the victims died prior to the initial report made to police.”

The fraud and thefts occurred between January 2, 2013 and April 30, 2019.

If you suspect you are a victim of fraud, we encourage you to come forward and speak with police.
