KAWS Sees Uptick In Recent Donations

Recently KAWS has seen an increase in donations from many around the community.

After facing a shortage of funds due to not being able to fundraise because of COVID, a recent uptick in donations has greatly helped towards the ongoing care of the KAWS animals.

“The last two years with COVID and not being able to fundraise has been so hard, but we were able to power through with the love, help and support of our community! It means the world to us all at KAWS!” said Jassie Miller, president of KAWS.

On Wednesday, November 10th, a cat came into KAWS’ care after being thrown from a truck, whether or not this was a deliberate act is uncertain, but emergency surgery was required. The cat, now fondly name Mao Mao, is recovering. Thanks to recent donations from Rhonda Werstiuk, Marj Hegarty McTaggart, and Keely and Kelsey Klein, KAWS was able to put a large amount towards Mao Mao’s vetting bill, and also to the future care of other animals.

“Like all of the kind caring people out there that donate money, food, or their time helping with transportation to pickup the animals I wanted to help,” said Rhonda Werstiuk. “More need funds are needed on a regular basis as KAWS doesn’t want to turn any animals away. So with bake sales and other fundraisers, we can all make sure KAWS is able to keep doing the AMAZING job they are doing! I couldn’t even imagine not having KAWS around, so I will continue to donate by running my Scentsy fundraisers. So please, let’s all do our part to make sure that KAWS continues to get the support they need.”
