Just when we were hoping to see a world in perfect harmony, viral variants wreck havoc.
I’m not just talking about a physical virus, although the “COVID THING” is now ingrained in our vocabularies.
I’m talking about that viral idea that one idea spreads to another idea which spreads to another idea until you have a superspreader.
Let’s choose our facts of life – the ideas we will dwell on.
Take our local community. During a pandemic, the Kindersley Chamber of Commerce has added three new members. Businesses have not shut down (although today may different than tomorrow). The water is still running, the lights are still on and the weather outside is chilly.
I am thankful.
At the same time, my encounters with others breeds a different atmosphere.
I’ve encountered anti-maskers. They are people.
I’ve encountered COVID deniers. They are people.
I’ve encountered depressed humans. They are people.
I’ve encountered cancel culture proponents. They are people.
So what do we do with all these people?
Back up the boat (or in winter, skate back to the net). What are we trying to achieve before we leave the dock or cross the blue line?
I’m in agreement with the idea that we don’t want to kill each other – so let’s not do that.
I’m in agreement with the idea that we need to stop lying to each other – so let’s not do that.
I’m in agreement with the idea that we need to quit demeaning each other – so let’s not do that.
Generally (and by that I’m understating the case) we need to love God (answers the question of where we come from and why we’re here), love ourselves (answers the question of whether we really believe we are supposed to be here) and love those around us (answer the question of whether we will step towards others rather than isolate others).
Put that into practice and there will be a true state of unity.
