Sask. RCMP Warn Drivers to Slow Down in School Zones

As the early mornings, packed lunches and homework have started up again, Saskatchewan RCMP want to remind everyone about school zone safety.

So far in 2023, 159 charges were laid and 81 warnings were given out by Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan (CTSS) officers for speeding in school zones in Saskatchewan.

Here are a couple examples of what officers encountered over the past year:

-On February 9, 2023, a Swift Current RCMP CTSS officer stopped a vehicle traveling 57km/hr in a 30 km/hr school zone in Swift Current. The driver was issued a $338 speeding ticket.

-On March 20, 2023, a Regina RCMP CTSS stopped a vehicle traveling 63km/hr in a 30 km/hr school zone in Emerald Park. The driver was issued a $514 speeding ticket.

Saskatchewan’s provincial police service have shared they will be patrolling school zones throughout the province to ensure safety.

So, whether you’re a parent dropping off or picking up the kids, or you’re just driving through a school zone trying to get where you’re going, let’s all do our part to keep everyone safe this school year.
