Flatlanders Set to Kick Off First Races of the Season
Start your engines because Flatlanders is back!
June 5th and 6th will see hobby stocks, street stocks, thunder trucks, modifieds, and a newer series called wingless sprints back on the tracks.
“We have a lot of vehicles coming in from a lot of different places because a lot of the tracks aren’t open yet,” said Flatlanders President, Jason Hankewich. “The newer series are something different, the wingless sprints are really squirrelly because there are no wings.”
With the province giving sports the green light earlier last week, it still didn’t give organizations a lot of time to plan things in advance so Flatlanders is doing “first come, first serve” over the weekend, allowing 150 people in total to attend. “With it being short notice, we gotta do what we can,” said Hankewich.
Looking towards the rest of the summer, nothing is set in stone because of COVID and the continued easing of restrictions, however, Hankewich is feeling positive, “it’s a little tough to say (what will happen over the summer), because of COVID, but we are hoping we can have a lot more fans attend the next set of races, but that depends on restrictions.”
The races kick off Saturday, June 5th at 4 p.m., and again on Sunday, June 6th at 1 p.m.
Good luck to all racers!
