SaskTel Subsidizing High-Speed Internet for Low-Income Seniors and Families

As part of the second phase of the federal government’s Connecting Families initiative, SaskTel is offering subsidized high-speed internet to thousands of low-income seniors and families across Saskatchewan thanks to a federal initiative.

The initiative, announced in 2018, aims to make internet services more affordable and accessible.

“As Saskatchewan’s homegrown communications provider, we’re pleased to continue to participate in the Connecting Families initiative to ensure low-income seniors and families across Saskatchewan have the opportunity to connect and participate in the digital world,” said SaskTel president and CEO Doug Burnett in a press release Monday.

As part of the second phase, the Crown corporation said eligibility for the program has been broadened from families receiving the maximum Canada childcare benefit to include seniors receiving the guaranteed income supplement.

SaskTel will offer those eligible for the initiative infiNET 60 internet for $20 per month where available.
