Obituaries: Yvonne Merle (King) Smith
April 24, 1930 ~ August 21, 2021 (age 91)
Mom passed away peacefully August 21, 2021 at the age of 91 at the Manor in Kindersley.
She was predeceased by her husband Eric and her precious daughter Sandra, her parents Ella and Lloyd King, brothers Irvine and Delmar and sister Aline.
She is survived by her son Michael (Valerie) of Kelowna BC, grandsons Shaun (Suzy) of Brooks AB, Cory (Allison) and Jason (Jenn) of Calgary AB and great grandchildren Gabrielle, Courtney, Taylyn and Kale, sisters Shirley and Verle and her “adopted” daughter Trudy Bews.
After moving to Kindersley in 1963 she worked at and then managed the Sears order office for a number of years. In retirement Mom and Dad enjoyed travelling and particularly the winters spent in Indio CA.
Mom was a gifted artist, crocheted and knitted sweaters, scarves and comforters for all the family and loved to read. She was an avid golfer and was actively involved in the Ladies Golf Club in a number of capacities. She had a sharp wit and a keen sense of humour.
She was incredibly proud of her grandsons and treasured the time spent with them. When the boys were young Christmas was always an event with so much incredible food and baking and the tree piled high with presents.
Mom was a selfless and dedicated care giver to Sandra and Dad as they fought and ultimately lost their respective battles with glioblastoma. Sandra’s passing was a profound loss from which Mom never recovered.
After Dad’s passing Mom lived in Calib Manor for a number of years before declining health necessitated a move to Eatonia Oasis Living and most recently to the Manor in Kindersley.
The family would like to thank the care givers at both EOL and the Manor for the care given over the last number of years. Although Mom could be a little “difficult” at times we know that she greatly appreciated all that you did for her.
We cannot adequately express the gratitude we feel towards Trudy Bews. She cared for Mom as though she was her own mother and did more for her than anyone could ask. She assisted in dealing with medical issues, acting as a taxi service to appointments and was there for her when we she needed comfort. With all of the family living so far away Trudy was truly a gift.
In lieu of flowers a gift to the Eatonia Oasis Living in Mom’s memory would be very much appreciated.
At Mom’s request there will be no service and a family gathering will be held at a later date.
