KFD Busy During Fire Prevention Week

Hello, Cody Phinney back for another update from the Kindersley Fire Brigade.

With Fire Prevention week comes lots of opportunities for members of the Kindersley Fire Department to get out with members of the public for some good fire safety reminders. This year our department was able to do things a bit differently with the addition of the new Public Education trailer. We had members with the trailer out in Lucky Lake and Rosetown partnering with their own local fire departments to teach kids about fire safety. Kids from kindergarten all the way up to grade 12 came out and took in presentations and demonstrations. Our members also had the trailer out at the Kindersley Mall on Saturday during the day and also partnered with Panago Pizza and Western Pizza to do deliveries and share fire safety messages while out around town. Thank you to everyone who was able to make these events happen. For a full list of sponsors and partners throughout the past week, as well as photos from all the events, check out our Facebook page! Our members are taking in the last bit of warm weather and good daylight hours to continue training towards the 1001 standard out at our training grounds on the west side of town. There have been many elaborate scenarios planned and carried out, many involving ventilation tactics, victim rescues, and multiple incident scenes. The members will continue to train through the winter inside the fire hall, including an upcoming First Aid/CPR course.

Just because Fire Prevention week is over doesn’t mean you shouldn’t continue to keep fire safety in mind the rest of the year. Practicing fire escape plans or discussing safe meeting places with your family can be a good way to spend time together and get your children involved in the household. Knowing two ways out of every room and having a safe meeting place outside the home could one day save a life.
