Small Business Week: Hill Acme Machine Ltd
BDC Small Business Week is a national celebration of Canadian entrepreneurs and their contribution to Canada’s economy. The Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) has been organizing Small Business Week since 1979. It takes place every year during the third full week of October. We thought, what better way to celebrate then to chat with some of the wonderful small business owners from the area!
Why did you decide to take over Hill Acme Machine Ltd.
Hill Acme has been apart of our community for over 40 years. When the Hill family was looking to retire we were beyond excited to take over their legacy. Helping our community in the oil & gas, and agriculture industry.
What are some of the perks and challenges for small business owners in today’s landscape?
Owning a small business in our community allows us to become apart of projects big and small. Things like, railings for the new pool slide, fix lights on main street, repairing fire trucks, and emergent farm repairs.
It also allows us to give back by donating to local sports, clubs and school organized events.
If you could give one piece of advice to someone hoping to start their own business, what would it be?
Do something that you are passionate about. Something you never want to stop learning and exploring more about that type of business.
Hard work does pay off, you may not see it right away but if you keep at it, the results and rewards will come.
Don’t get discourage when things don’t work out. There is a solution it just may not be your first or second attempt at fixing the problem. The journey to finding the solution will only make you become a stronger business owner.
