Hay, That Doesn’t look Safe!
On December 5, 2023, a Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan (CTSS) Swift Current officer saw a semi hauling bales of hay on Highway #1 near Ernfold, SK. The bales appeared to be swaying back and forth. The officer pulled the semi over and determined the bales were completely unsecured – despite the driver having appropriate straps on hand.
The truck was also not equipped with wide mirrors, which would allow the driver to properly see around the trailer’s wide load.
The driver was forced to secure the load before hitting the road again, plus was ticketed for having an unsecured load and inadequate mirrors.
They were two of the 1347 traffic tickets CTSS issued during Canada Safe Driving Week, which ran December 1 to 7.
