Winter Storm Expected For Area
A winter storm is expected to roll through the West Central area, including Kindersley tonight. It’s expected to bring freezing rain, heavy snowfalls combined with reduced visibility and strong winds.
Strong winds will move into the area overnight and spread across southern Saskatchewan through the day Tuesday. Areas south of a line from Kindersley to Regina will see very strong winds, with gusts in excess of 100 km/h likely.
Winds will abate Tuesday night.
Please refrain from travelling on the highways if possible. If things look clear at your planned time of departure, make sure you still check the forecast and Highway Hotline as weather and road conditions can change very quickly. https://hotline.gov.sk.ca/
Keep in mind that first responders may have a hard time getting to you in blizzard conditions if you experience an emergency on the road.
If you can’t reschedule your travel plans, please ensure you’re fully prepared with warm winter gear, a fully charged phone, a full tank of gas, an emergency kit and drinking water. Make sure your vehicle is operating well and your lights are all working. Give yourself plenty of extra travel time and adjust your speed accordingly (and remember: don’t use cruise control as it can cause you to spin out where it’s icy). Lastly, tell someone your travel plans and anticipated arrival time so they know when to expect you.
