Kindersley Students Take on Wellness Challenge
To help encourage staff, students and families to engage in self-care and wellness activities, students at Kindersley Composite School and Elizabeth School in Kindersley have been participating in monthly wellness challenges. Each day they kept track of their self-care and wellness minutes, which included such activities as listening to music, going for walks, reading, yoga and many other activities. The classroom that had the most wellness minutes wins a pizza party. The Wellness Challenges are powered by RBC!
Congratulations to Lindsay Johnson’s Grade 7 class at Elizabeth Middle School and Kelsea Glencross’s Wellness 10 class at Kindersley Composite School, who were the winners of the November Wellness Challenge! These two classrooms creatively came up with ways to set and achieve positive goals while equipping students with skills that they will use well after they leave school. By carving a little time in their day to engage in wellness, they were actively increasing self-awareness, self-management and responsible decision-making, which have all been proven to strengthen one’s resiliency and emotional intelligence.
Lindsay Johnson’s class followed the November calendar through wellness assignments she created through Microsoft Teams. Her students were asked to do two things from the calendar in each assignment. One of her students stated: “It was nice thinking deeper into the things I’m doing.”
Kelsea Glencross and her Wellness 10 students took on the November challenge with determination and enthusiasm. Each day, they followed along with the provided calendar and tracked their self-care and wellness minutes. They were very proud of themselves and their achievements! One of the Grade 10 students stated: “I feel happier overall. Even just doing little things feels better.”
