Clipper System Set to Hit Region Wednesday and Thursday

As a “Clipper” system is set to hit the region, Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for southern Saskatchewan that is currently in effect until late Thursday.

The clipper system is bringing strong to severe winds, wintry precipitation and blowing snow Wednesday and Thursday.

While Environment Canada is unclear on the exact timing and location of the severe winds due to the system’s changing nature, it will likely cross into Saskatchewan on Wednesday resulting in widespread strong winds of 60 km/h gusting to 80 across the southern half of the province. The southwest will likely see this begin Wednesday morning, with localized severe gusts reaching 100 km/h in the afternoon or evening.

A mix of scattered rain showers, freezing rain and snow will also accompany the system, while local snowfall could reach five to 10 centimeters due to isolated snow squalls and banding.

Local RCMP would like to remind drivers to slow down on the roads, and if visibility is poor please stay off the roads if you do not need to travel.
