Obituaries: Barry Thomas Malindine

1946 ~ 2024 (age 77)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Husband, Father and Papa Barry Malindine on January 10th, 2024 in Kindersley.

Barry was born in Rayleigh, Essex, England to Mary and William Malindine. He was the oldest of 3, leaving behind his sisters Susan (Jim) Blundell and Mary Malindine.

Barry met Therese Downes in school as teenagers and married the love of his life June 20th, 1970. They had 2 daughters; Sarah (Trent) Benjaminson and Karen Stevens.

Barry moved the family to Canada in February 1979 when he accepted a job at CKKR Radio in Rosetown, leaving behind his special mates Syd and Jen, John and Doll, Phil, Allan, and Carol, and their families. He worked there in many positions until going to Jamac Publishing to finish his sales career. He met many lifelong friends during this time.

He was blessed with 7 grandchildren: Mikayla (Brad) Long, Lundon (Amanda) Clappison, Ty (Kristin) Stevens, Logan (Nichelle) Clappison, Tori (Cody) Becker and 2 chosen grandchildren Saige and Grayden Lucas. He loved his nieces- Michelle, Ellen, Dannielle, Christina, Corinne, Cherisse and nephews- David, Dean, Will, Colin, Ben and Tony and many greats.

Barry was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis which is a terminal illness with a 3–5-year life expectancy. He made 4 years and never thought he would be blessed with 4 great-grandchildren. Stetson James (2019), Laramie Eileen (2021), Rowan Elizabeth (2022) and Porter Shae (2023). These little people were his life, he loved babysitting, playdates and family get togethers.

He loved following his grandchildren to all their hockey and ball games, cheering them on and offering his non skating opinions to the refs and umpires. He was gifted a pair of skates from his buddy that he called his CCC go faster skates but he never mastered them like his buddy had. He had a soft spot for so many of your children through his years organizing the Lions summer park program, driving the school bus or his grandkids teammates. This was evident even as he passed the nurses and care aids called him and mum Papa and Nanny.

He was predeceased by his parents Mary and William Malindine and in laws Eileen and William Downes. As well as his brothers and sister-in-laws, Danny Downes, Patrick and Lorraine Downes and Alannah Seeley. He is survived by his sister-in-law Jenny Downes and brother in law Jim Blundell.

We would like to thank the Kindersley Hospital and Heritage Manor staff for these past 6 weeks; his home care nurses and his pulmonary team Dr. Marcoux and Shane.

There will be a private family service held with an interment at a later date in the Kindersley Cemetery.
