Counterfeit Coins Discovered in Ontario
Ontario Provincial Police have warned counterfeit toonies are in circulation after officers were called to a store where they were used to buy items.
The counterfeit coins have the same coloration as real toonies, but have a walrus on one side instead of a polar bear, are stamped as being worth “Z DOLLARD” and the image of Queen Elizabeth II is incorrect. The coins are also dated 1990, however, the first real toonies weren’t in circulation until 1996.
If you suspect that you’ve received counterfeit money, please contact local police.
