After spending more than 10 years at the helm of the league, Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) commissioner Bill Chow is stepping down from the role.
Chow announced his decision to resign on Janurary 31st, in the below news release.
“This is a notification of my role as Commissioner of the Saskatchewan Jr Hockey league (SJHL).
Effective May 31st 2022, I will be stepping down from the position of Commissioner of the SJHL. I will not be back to complete the contract that is currently in place and set to expire on May 31st 2023. I will continue to fulfil my duties as the Commissioner of the SJHL as I have for the past 10 plus years. There have been many factors that have gone into my final decision.
This notice to the Board of Governors that I will cease being the commissioner on May 31st 2022, provides the Board of Governors 4 months to conduct a thorough hiring process in their bid to find the next commissioner.”
During his tenure, Chow saw the league through the Humboldt Broncos tragedy in April of 2018, and the decision to cancel the playoffs at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
