Obituaries: Joseph Albany “Ben” Bouchard

1924 ~ 2022 (age 97)

The death of Ben Bouchard, age 97, of Kerrobert, Sask. occurred at Kerrobert Health Center Long Term Care on February 6, 2022.

Ben was born on March 5, 1924 in Kerrobert and was raised on the family farm near Superb, Sask. He was the fourth of eight children and oldest son of Leo and Adelia Bouchard. Ben attended Patrick School, grades 1 through 10, and then attended St. Thomas College in North Battleford, grades 11 and 12. After graduation he worked on the family farm and shortly thereafter moved to Kindersley where he worked first at Bishop and Wright and later at Howard’s Garage as a self taught mechanic.

On January 2, 1948 Ben married June English. In 1950 they moved back to the Bouchard family farm near Superb, Sask. where they had a grain and cattle operation. Here they raised four children . . . Alan, Doreen, Elaine and Raymond. In 1978 they retired from farming and moved into Kerrobert. Ben worked at Imperial Oil in Kerrobert for a couple of years before retiring.

Ben is best remembered for his building and mechanical ability. He could fix and build anything and spent many hours tinkering in his garage at the farm and later in Kerrobert. He also loved accounting and all personal and farm records were meticulously maintained. His Catholic faith was very important to him and he was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Kerrobert. He spent many hours volunteering at the church. In his spare time he enjoyed playing billiards and shuffleboard at the Senior Citizen Center.

Ben is survived by his children Alan (Marty) Bouchard, Doreen (Brian) Boyd, Elaine (Ken) Campbell and Raymond (Sue) Bouchard: granddaughters Jodie (Calvin) Walz, Nicole (Justin) Bouchard and Heather Bouchard: great-granddaughters Hannah, Ashlyn and Brynn Walz.
