Gas Hits $2 a Litre in BC
Gasoline has hit $2 a litre in Metro Vancouver .
Prices have shot upwards, spurred on by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
According to Natural Resources Canada, gas prices across the country averaged $1.76 per litre on Friday, up from $1.62 just two days earlier. Gas prices reached $2.00 per litre in Vancouver, $1.75 in Toronto, $1.84 in Montreal and $1.67 in Halifax.
Dan McTeague, president of Canadians for Affordable Energy, says the average gas price across the country is poised to rise 26 cents in one week to nearly $1.85 per litre by Sunday.
One concern many have, is that the rising cost could have a ripple effect–weighing on economic growth and push up inflation, which hit its highest level since 1991.
Meanwhile, the B.C. government has vowed to take action against record-breaking gas prices but says freezing carbon tax increases or capping gas prices isn’t on the table.
