Judy Blume’s ‘Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret’ Is Becoming a Movie

Fans rejoice! Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret by Judy Blume is finally hitting the big screen this September in a Lionsgate film adaptation.

Although it’s been over fifty years since the book was released, this coming-of-age story is undoubtedly timeless as it navigates the confusing and even isolating years of puberty. Up until now, the 83-year-old novelist has avoided signing over the rights to her most famous work, despite plenty of offers to recreate Are You There God? for the big screen.

However, times change and this story is finally getting its big debut on screen. The film is set to release on September 16th, 2022. Abby Ryder Forston stars as Margaret, a sixth-grade girl on the hunt for the answers to life’s biggest questions. Rachel McAdams stars as her mom, Barbara, with Benny Safdie as Margaret’s dad, and Kathy Bates as her grandmother.

The story follows Margaret after a big move from the city to the suburbs. She struggles with the troubles of going through puberty, having to buy a bra for the first time, first crushes, anxieties about school, and so much more. Plus, with parents who are Christian and Jewish, she finds herself on a quest to discover her religious identity.
