Residents Are Reminded to Watch for Thin Ice
With the constantly moving up and down, residents are reminded to keep off the ice at the Motherwell Reservoir, as well as the smaller creeks and ponds in town.
If you do get in a situation where you break through thin ice:
1. Keep Calm – Panic is your worst enemy
2. Stay Afloat – Keep your head out of the water
3. Pull Yourself Out – Lean forward onto the ice and kick your feet like you’re swimming
4. Crawl Forward – Do not stand up right away
5. Roll Away – Less chances you will break through the ice again
Do not attempt to rescue someone who has fallen through the ice, as you might fall through as well. Call 911 and trained professionals will be there to help!
