What is Athletic Therapy?

Athletic Therapists (ATs) are experts in injury prevention, assessment, management and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal (MSK) injuries both in the clinic and on the field with sports teams.

ATs are one of the few professions that offer their expertise throughout the whole duration of care. They treat clients of all ages and sport/activity backgrounds. They also address various injuries that affect bones, muscles and joints (MSK injuries), as well as serious injuries affecting the spine and head (including concussions). They even assist individuals in their surgical recovery.

ATs strive to manage and rehabilitate injuries with minimal time lost so their athletes and clients can continue to excel in their sport and exercise activities. They use a wide range of treatments such as modalities, exercise prescription, manual therapies, bracing, and taping.

Who is Athletic Therapy for?

Everyone NOT just Athletes!

Don’t let the name of the profession deter you. Whether you are five or ninety-five, there’s always something ATs can help with. From broken bones, sprains and strains to daily aches and pains and everything in between I can get you back to the activity, sport, job or lifestyle you love!

Lots of people wait to get the okay from their doctor to see a physiotherapist when their cast comes off or wait a few days/weeks when swelling or pain has gone down. However, you can start rehabilitation within the first 24hrs after you get injured to help with the healing process and decrease any complications/compensations that will prolong your rehab.

When should you see an Athletic Therapist?

Don’t wait! Don’t think:

“I’ll wait and see how it feels tomorrow”
“I just need to get through the week and I can let it rest”
“I’m too busy to go, it will get better”

Does this sound like you? Don’t worry, I’m guilty of this as well. Patients often wait weeks, months and sometimes even years before seeking help to recover from their injury.

However, this can lead to further complications and may even cause a secondary injury which will impact your recovery time. This is why it’s best to see an Athletic Therapist during the acute phase of injury. This can be as early as the first 24 HOURS. So, to see quick, efficient and effective benefits don’t hesitate and book your appointment as soon as possible.
