Many business’s in Melville are participating in a good-natured ‘sign war’ and you will certainly see some interesting ones!
A local Home Hardware sign reads, “We heard someone took a LEEK at the Independent,” while the local grocery story responded with “Home Hardware, ROMAINE calm and LETTUCE join. Sign war?” The local plumbing company then responded with, “Independent, LETTUCE help you with your LEEKS!”
The “punny sign war” started when Jeff Appel, store manager of the local Home Hardware, decided to have some fun with one of his signs. After that, other businesses loved it, and the idea took off.
