Kandice Harrington to be Walter Aseltine’s New Principal
Walter Aseltine School in Rosetown is getting a new principal. Kandice Harrington, who is currently a numeracy coach and mathematics teacher with the Northern Lights School Division, will take up the position in the fall. “I am grateful for the experiences I have had and the relationships that I have made in Northern Saskatchewan;” said Ms. Harrington, “they have prepared me to become an integral part of the Walter Aseltine team.”
“Kandice is a dynamic force to be reckoned with,” explained Randy Emmerson, Sun West Director of Education, “she has a passion for individualized programming and meeting the diverse needs of all students. She is proficient in assessment, program development and communications and is an eager learner who embraces change as an essential part of growth and development.”
Ms. Harrington holds both a Bachelor of Education and a Bachelor of Arts and Science from the University of Saskatchewan. She has impeccable credentials and vast experience in teaching math and as well she has done additional course work in educational psychology and special education. Ms. Harrington is a certified Microsoft Innovative Educator, a Following their Voices Teacher and successfully completed Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST).
Since 2002, Ms. Harrington has held a number of teaching positions with the Saskatoon Public School Division, the Northern Lights School Division and Northlands College in La Ronge. Her assignments have included high school and university math, elementary French immersion and high school history. She was part of the SaskMATH Working Group that created resources to support math teachers in Saskatchewan.
Ms. Harrington stated: “I am honored to be chosen as the new principal of Walter Aseltine School! I cannot wait to get to know the people and immerse myself in the community of Rosetown. Together, we are going to do amazing things as we serve the students and families of Walter Aseltine School. My family and I are ready for this amazing new adventure!”
