WCA Board – A Culture of Innovation
For 50 years West Central Abilities Inc.’s volunteer board members have contributed back to their community. They have shared their talents, skills, and expertise to keep our agency operating at its optimum.
As a Policy Board, their main focuses are on strategic planning, the sustainability of services and operations of the organization, including matters of importance to people experiencing disability.
Membership provides the perfect opportunity for individuals to play an active role in their community through doing meaningful work that is highly regarded. There are occasions to network with fellow members, socialize and have fun with great people. Including opportunities for professional development are available for board members.
We are honored to share some bits from our Board Chair, Tamara Wiebe. Tamara has been involved with the organization since she was in her teens. Tamara first started gaining experience as part of the work experience program through school and later she was hire as an employee and continued to work for the agency for many years. Tamara felt inspired to join the Board many years later as she wanted to help in the community, and WCA’s cause was one she felt was very important. For Tamara serving as a volunteer board member gives opportunity to advocate and speak for those that may not have a voice for themselves. To the Board, Tamara brings comprehensive organizational skills, strong willingness, and an appreciated sense of humour. Tamara expressed that she is extremely proud of the new program building. Fundraising was a huge accomplishment to get this project from a dream to a reality, and her involvement on the fundraising committee was key.
