Speeding Driver Receives $1,490 Fine, 7 Day Impound of Car
What does speeding past eight marked police vehicles get you? A seven-day impound of your vehicle and nearly $1,500 in fines. One driver found this out the hard way on July 21, 2022.
Motorcycle officers with Combined Traffic Services Sask. were out riding as a group on Highway 6 north of Regina doing some training. There was an unmarked van trailing behind them, acting as their support vehicle.
The driver of a car sped past the van going 146 km/hr in a 100 zone, and pulled in behind the group of police motorcycles. The officer on the rear bike noted this and flashed his emergency lights, attempting to warn the driver to slow down. The driver then pulled out to pass the group of motorcycles, driving at a very high rate of speed, and pulled in behind a marked police SUV. Two of the motorcycle officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver did not slow down, continuing at speeds exceeding 180 km/hr while passing.
Police were eventually able to pull the driver over. The driver was subsequently charged with exceeding the speed limit by over 50 km/hr and driving without consideration of others on the roadway – which equalled fines of $1,490 and a seven-day impound of their car.
