KFD Participates in BBQ and Slow Pitch Game

Hello, Cody Phinney here again with another update from the Kindersley Fire Brigade.

July 22 and 23 saw the return of the mud drags and tractor pulls to Kindersley at the East Forty
Raceway. Members from the KFB were asked to attend to help provide fire control and vehicle
extraction if at all necessary. I’m happy to report that despite a very close call, our members were able
to sit back and enjoy the races! A big thank you goes out to Shayne Neigum, the Good to Go Racing
team, and all the other racers and volunteers for all their hard work putting together an awesome
weekend.

The following Sunday, July 24 th , the KFB Social Club committee planned a BBQ and a friendly slow pitch
game as a way for our members and their families as a way to all get together outside of training or
calls. The planning was streamlined with some assistance from Danny with Baytex Energy, who
happened to stop by the hall earlier in the week with a box of burgers for us! Even with the quick
thunder shower we had, the event was a great success, and was a bit of much needed relaxation.

With the drier weather we’ve had recently, I thought now would be a good time to bring up fire pit
safety. We all love a nice evening fire, it’s a great way to spend some time with family and friends. But
when the proper precautions aren’t followed, they can ruin your evening in a hurry. All firepits within
town limits are required to be at least 3 meters from any property lines or buildings and must be
covered with grating or perforated metal with openings not exceed one half inch. These rules are in
place to help keep sparks and embers from escaping your fire pit and igniting your neighbours house or
your lawn. It is also best practice to extinguish your fires at the end of the night by stirring your fire pit
while applying water continuously. Continue applying water until you no longer hear the water sizzling
or see any more smoke.
